I always said there is nothing more beautiful to me in the world than a woman with a round, swollen belly. Or so I thought… until I was that woman! As a photographer I understand that which I can see - that a mom-to-be feels big and clumsy and somewhat like a waddling duck. As a woman, I know that there’s more to it. Your feet are swollen and your back is sore… your heartburn is constant and you don’t even recognize yourself in the mirror some days. Yet, while all of this is happening, the awe of what is taking place inside of you in overwhelming.

There is a miracle taking place, literally, right in front of you. It is this that I try to celebrate in my pregnancy shoots. I celebrate the love between the parents, in which she was conceived. I embrace the bond forming between the father and his unborn son. I celebrate the maternal instinct. The force that is protective, and strong and fierce. Yet gentle, patient and warm. And I celebrate the beauty that most pregnant woman can’t see in themselves. The glow that can’t help but radiate itself out of them.

And as a mom, I also know that no matter how a pregnant woman feels at the time… when they look back at these photos of themselves, they will feel a longing to do it all over again!
